PENTA has had the opportunity to serve Ash Grove Cement Company (AGC) for the last 25 years, participating in over 200 projects across different disciplines, and supporting their changing needs at their plants throughout the USA.

Our knowledge and experience in all aspects of the cement manufacturing process has enabled us to provide innovative and cost saving solutions to AGC.

In recent years, PENTA has performed numerous projects at many of AGC’s facilities including:

• EPCM projects for storage domes and terminals
• Feasibility studies for new kiln lines, mill upgrades, material handling systems, energy optimization programs and environmental controls
• Civil/Structural engineering/design and material quantity estimates
• General arrangement drawings and detail Mechanical engineering
• Electrical engineering/design and power studies
• Process engineering
• Assistance in addressing emission issues and implementing emission controls
• Capital cost estimates, project scheduling and cash flow projections.

The project consisted of two new cement distribution terminals, one in Pensacola, Florida and the second one in Houston, Texas. PENTA did complete design, purchasing and construction management for both projects, as well as the complete site preparation including grading, utilities, road paving and track installation. PENTA also installed a single unloading pit with double boot lifts that fed a collection screw and then a bucket elevator. Two 1100-ton silos were installed with single truck loadout spout and scale.

In 2006 PENTA was awarded the project design engineering for Continental Cement's new 33TPD dry process kiln line at their plant located in Hannibal. PENTA worked closely with Continental's Project Team, starting with the conceptual engineering and ending with the commissioning of the new line.

PENTA was heavily involved in all aspects of this project.In addition to performing mechanical, structural and electrical engineering, PENTA prepared bid packages for equipment vendors and construction contractors, assisted in the selection process, and participated in the on-site construction management.

The scope included a new primary crusher, new 800-foot raw material storage building, material handling and conveying systems, a Loesche raw mill, blending silo with IBAU homogenizing system, KHD preheater, kiln and clinker cooler, Aumund bucket elevators and pan conveyors for kiln feed and clinker handling, and a Williams coal grinding system. Later in the project, Continental also added a KHD roll press to increase the finish grinding capacity.

Plant start-up took place in August, 2008, and production has exceeded the design capacity.

PENTA’s working relationship with GRAYMONT, the third largest producer of lime in North America, began in 2001, and has involved the design and supply of a kiln burner, two new kiln lines, and various other projects.

We are very grateful that Graymont allows us to participate in most of their projects, and we have a Project Manager dedicated to assisting them.

Over the past 10 years PENTA has supported many of HOLCIM’s facilities in the US, and their Mississauga, Canada plant. Our services included CAPEX studies, preliminary engineering for transport, storage and handling systems, process upgrades, plant inspections and power studies, structural evaluations of structures, and feasibility studies for material handling systems and environmental controls.

Recent work was performed for a bypass dust transport and metering system, a plant audit to identify potential projects that could have a quick return on investment, the design of a milling machine platform and a quarry cost estimate.

PENTA has also conducted multiple plant upgrade projects at HOLCIM’s operations in Argentina and Chile.

The Jaypee Group, 3rd largest cement producer in India, commissioned a 4000 tpd clinkerization unit at Sewagaram in Gujarat in late 2009. In May, 2010, PENTA Industrial was assigned to carry out a process audit to aid the plant in reaching maximum capacity. This assignment involved detail study of the existing system and operating parameters, process estimations of maximum achievable capacities and the establishment of the optimum operating conditions to enhance capacities.
