Coal aSH & CCR eNGINEERING

Coal Ash & Coal Combustion Residuals Engineering

PENTA provides engineering and EPC/EPCM solutions for coal ash processing, handling, storage, transportation and distribution—from the power plant to the end user.

PENTA provided basic engineering services for a new fly ash handling and distribution system designed to process more than one million short tons of dry fly ash annually for shipment by rail and truck. The project supports the recovery of fly ash currently being ponded and its conversion into a marketable supplementary cementitious material (SCM) for use as a ready-mix concrete additive.

COAL ASH eNGINEERING SOLUTIONS FROM sOURCE TO END USER

Coal combustion residuals, including fly ash and bottom ash, can be recovered, processed and transported for beneficial reuse. PENTA helps clients develop the systems required to move coal ash from its source to its end use.

COMPREHENSIVE COAL COMBUSTION RESIDUALS ENGINEERING SERVICES

PENTA supports coal combustion residuals (CCR) and coal ash projects from early project development through detailed engineering and EPC/EPCM execution. Our team helps clients develop practical systems for processing, handling, storage, transportation, and distribution.

OUR CCR CAPABILITIES INCLUDE:

Feasibility & Environmental Studies
Evaluate project opportunities, site conditions, environmental considerations, material characteristics, and project requirements to establish practical and cost-effective solutions.

Understanding Coal combustion Residuals

Coal Combustion Residuals (CCRs), also known as coal ash, are by-products of coal-fired power generation. The two primary types are fly ash and bottom ash.

Fly ash is a fine material collected from the exhaust gases of coal-fired boilers. When it meets applicable specifications, fly ash can be used as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) in concrete and other construction applications.

Bottom ash is a coarser material that collects at the bottom of a coal-fired furnace. It can also be recovered and processed for beneficial reuse.

From coal ash to beneficial reuse

Coal ash can be recovered, processed, stored, transported, and delivered to end users for beneficial reuse. For example, processed fly ash can be used as a pozzolanic material in concrete or as a raw material in cement manufacturing.

PENTA helps clients evaluate and develop systems for recovering coal ash from existing facilities, ponds, and landfills. These projects can include ash processing and beneficiation, material handling, storage, transportation, and distribution.

As a result, PENTA can support the complete material flow from the source to the end user.
